Away From Myself

It came together quickly. My fingers seemed to move across the keyboard on their own, and the melody simply fell into place. That’s really about all I remember from the creative process. Even though the piece wasn’t difficult to write, it has definitely stood the test of time for me — to this day, it’s one of the recordings I play most often when I’m sitting with a cup of coffee and letting my thoughts wander.

That’s where “distant, yet close” comes from. Distant, because I remember so little about the moment it was created, and because the music often carries my thoughts somewhere far away. Close, because somehow it has always stayed with me.
